An IP space is a storage for IP addresses that are unique to a particular space. It is a single routing domain with its own IP addresses. All IP addresses must belong to an IP space. You can manage IP addresses in one IP space independently of another; changes made in one IP space are not reflected in other IP spaces. Because IP spaces are mutually exclusive, the addresses in each IP space can have overlapping address spaces with multiple duplicate IP addresses, and this does not affect the network integrity. Once you create an IP space, you can make copies of it.

You can allocate specific address spaces to a compartment to further segregate IP addresses for divisional use. For information about compartments, see Configuring Compartments. The IP space of a DHCP host NIOS-X Server or an HA group is determined by the first subnet or an address range assigned to it. All subsequent assignments must match the first subnet or an address range that is assigned. The application displays an error message if a subnet or an address range with an inconsistent IP space is assigned to a hostNIOS-X Server. To modify an IP space, you must first remove all assignments and then assign an object from a different space.

  • Each has its own networks and DNS domains.
  • Each has its own private IP spaces in the 10.0.0.0/24 network.
  • Each has its own DHCP and DNS servers and uses dynamic DNS updates. The DHCP servers of each corporation serve IP addresses for networks in their respective corporations.
  • The DHCP clients in each corporation update DNS zones within their DNS domains.

The two corporations plan to migrate the networks and hosts NIOS-X Servers from the address space Corp 200 to the address space Corp 100 and the corpxyz.com domain. To support both networks in the meantime and to facilitate the migration, you can configure BloxOne Universal DDI to manage the networks and domains of both corporations. As shown in the following diagram, you can configure a host NIOS-X Server for each corporation and manage their networks independently. Host NIOS-X Server 1 serves DNS and DHCP to Corp 100. The networks of Corp 100 are contained in the Corp 100 IP space, which is associated with the internal and external DNS views of the corpxyz.com domain. Host  NIOS-X Server 2 serves DNS and DHCP to Corp 200. The networks of Corp 200 are in the Corp 200 IP space, which is associated with both the internal and external DNS views of the corp200.com domain. The two corporations have one overlapping network, 10.1.1.0/24.

To view the list of IP spaces, do the following:

  1. From the Cloud Services Infoblox Portal, click Manage > IPAM/DHCP > Address Spaces.
  2. BloxOne Universal DDI displays the following information:
  • NAME: The name of the IP space. If a DNS view is associated with the IP space, the name of the IP space is populated from DNS automatically.  
  • DESCRIPTION: Additional information about the IP space.
  • UTILIZATION: The percentage of the total IPv4 DHCP utilization of the IP space. This is the percentage of the total number of DHCP hostsNIOS-X Servers, fixed addresses, address ranges, and leases assigned to the IP space, versus the total number of IP addresses and all DHCP objects assigned to the IP space. This percentage does not include abandoned addresses or leases.
    • Red: The DHCP resources are 76%-100% utilized.

    • Orange: The DHCP resources are 51%-75% utilized.

    • Green: The DHCP resources are 0%-50% utilized.

  • USAGE: Indicates what the address space is used for, such as IPAM or DHCP or both.
  • COMPARTMENT: The name of the compartment that is associated with this IP space. For more information, see Configuring Compartments. This feature is available only for users participating in the Early Access Program (EAP). For information about the EAP, visit Infoblox Early Access Program.

  • Click the menu button, , then Edit, or select the checkbox for the respective record, and click the Edit button to modify an IP space.

  • Select an IP space to view additional details, such as tags, leases, DHCP options, and filters. If you do not want to view the details in the panel on the right, click the information button, .

  • Click the utilization details button, , view the IP space’s utilization details, or click the tabular view button, , to view the details in a tabular format.

  • In the Search text box, enter the value that you want to search by. BloxOne Universal DDI displays the list of items matching the keyword in the database. You can search by Name, Description, or Tags (the Tag key and/or Tag value). You cannot search by IPv4 Utilization.
  • Click the filter button, , to filter the objects by name and descriptionTo save a filter after selecting the required parameters click Save Filter, specify a name for the filter, and click Save. To reload a previously saved filter, click the saved filters button, , and select the required filter.
