When you have a need to enable the same services on multiple hosts, creating a template and applying it to the applicable hosts can save you time. You can apply one template to up to 100 hosts without the hassle of creating the same configurations repeatedly. In addition, each template can serve up to 500 hosts. Using templates can also simplify planning, deployment, and maintenance for your BloxOne infrastructure.

A template is a set of service configurations you have defined for a host. When creating a template, BloxOne Manually configuring multiple NIOS-X servers with the same set of services can be cumbersome and error prone. To simplify the planning, deployment and maintenance of your servers, you can create and apply templates to groups of multiple servers to enforce a common server configuration.

A template contains a set of service names, service types, service descriptions, service tags, and interface labels (interface bindings) you have defined for a server.  To create a template, you select an existing server and the Infoblox platform takes a snapshot of the service configurations on the host, including the following information: service name, service type, service description, service tags, and interface labels (interface bindings). After you create a template, you can apply it to other hosts that require the same service configurationsthat server.

When assigning a template to servers, you can assign the template to up to 100 servers at a time. In total, you can apply a single template to up to a maximum of 500 servers.

After applying a template to one or more hostsservers, you have the option to set a specific lock type on individual hosts servers to handle the following situations:

  • Ensure that the hosts servers adhere to the template configurations.

  • Add, modify, or delete services on certain hosts servers to which you have applied a template.

  • Test a particular service configuration on the hostsservers.

For information on how to set lock type on a hostserver, see Setting Lock Type on Hostsservers.

The Cloud Services Infoblox Portal logs the following template actions to the audit log: create, update, apply, and delete. For information, see Viewing Audit Logs.
