For the new vNIOS for OpenStack models supported from NIOS 9.0.1 onwards, Infoblox recommends that you use SSDs for storage for better performance. See the tables in this topic for the supported models.
The specified Trinzic X6 series appliances running on NIOS 9.0.2 or later support the following features:
Advanced DNS Protection/Threat Protection: All supported appliances of Trinzic X6 series.
DNS Cache Acceleration: IB-V2326 and IB-V4126 appliances.
If a Trinzic X5 instance is running on a NIOS version prior to 9.0.1, the disk size will be set to 250 GB.
The performance of a vNIOS VM instance deployed on an OpenStack host is impacted by the huge page sizes configured on the instance and on the host, and also by the services enabled on the instance.
Although, huge page sizes configured on the host and the VM instance are independent of each other. The following behavior is observed:When the host is configured to allocate huge pages to the instance, performance issues are reduced as it minimizes disk fragmentation, which otherwise has a significant impact on the performance. However, if the host is over provisioned with VM instances, performance of the VM will be impacted. To avoid it, refer to the best practices recommended by the Hypervisor.
When the host is not configured to allocate huge pages to the instance, performance issues can elevate due to increased possibility of disk fragmentation, which often leads to non-contiguous physical memory blocks being allocated to the VM. In some cases, this may also lead to memory allocation failures.

Supported vNIOS Appliances for vNIOS for OpenStack
The below table lists the Trinzic vNIOS X6 models of vNIOS for OpenStack appliances supported in NIOS 9.0.1 and later. These models support the cloud platform feature. To use the feature, you must install the Cloud Platform license. For more information, refer to the Managing Licenses in NIOS 9.0.1 and later topic in the Infoblox NIOS Documentation.

The following table lists the supported vNIOS appliances that support for reporting:
vNIOS Reporting Appliance | Overall Disk (GB) | Minimum Disk Space Required | # of vCPUs | Memory Allocation (GB) | Supported as Grid Master and Grid Master Candidate |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
IB-V805 | 500 | 250 GB | 2 | 32 | No |
IB-V1405 | 500 | 500 GB | 4 | 32 | No |
IB-V2205 | 500 | 1 TB | 8 | 64 | No |
IB-V4005 | 500 (+ user defined reporting storage) | 1.5 TB | 14 | 128 | No |
IB-V5005 | User defined | User defined | User defined | User defined | No |
You can configure the vNIOS virtual appliance as a Grid member or a reporting member. When you set up a vNIOS reporting virtual appliance, it is used solely for reporting purposes. You cannot add licenses to run other services such as DNS and DHCP on a reporting appliance. The Infoblox reporting solution automates the collection, analysis, and presentation of core network service data that assists you in planning and mitigating network outage risks so that you can manage your networks more efficiently. For more information about Infoblox Grids and reporting solution, refer to the Infoblox NIOS Documentation. Note that for reporting, you must create an instance that has a second disk associated with it. For more information see, Setting Up vNIOS the OpenStack Flavors for vNIOS.
