To create a NIOS-X Server:

  1. From the Infoblox Portal, click Configure > Servers > Server.

  2. On the Create NIOS-X Server page, specify the following:

    • Name: Enter a name for the NIOS-X Server.

    • Description: Enter additional information about the NIOS-X Server.

    • Auto-generate DNS records for this NIOS-X Server: Choose this option to allow for the automatic creation of the A, AAAA, CNAME, and PTR records in DNS for the associated IP address. This check box is not selected by default. 
    • NIOS-X Server nameS: Click Add to add a NIOS-X Server or click Remove to delete the entry. Complete the following to add a NIOS-X Server:
      • Name: Specify the name of the NIOS-X Server.
      • Primary NameIf this is the primary name, choose the option Primary Name.
      • Alias: Select this option if an Alias is to be generated. 
      • Zone: Select the zone from the drop-down.
    • IP ADDRESSES: Click Add to associate IP addresses with the NIOS-X Server or click Remove to delete the entry. Click Add and choose any of the following to associate IP addresses:
      • Manually Enter IP Address: Configure the following settings:
        • IP space: Select an IP space from the drop-down list. Note that the IP space must have a subnet defined to create a NIOS-X Server.
        • IP address: Enter an IP address for the IP space. Note that the IP address associated with the IP space must be unique and you cannot associate it with another NIOS-X Server record.
        • Next AvailableSelect the check box to allow Universal DDI to automatically get the next available subnet. This field is available only if the parent address block exists. For more information, see Configuring Next Available Network. This is not applicable to IPv6.
        • Scope: Specify the network scope. This field is available only if you select Next Available
      • Chose the IP addressConfigure the following settings:
        • IP Address: Drill down to choose the IP address. Note that the IP address associated with the IP space must be unique and you cannot associate it with another NIOS-X Server record.
        • IP space: Select an IP space from the drop-down list. Note that the IP space must have a subnet defined to create a NIOS-X Server.
        • Next AvailableSelect the check box to allow Universal DDI to automatically get the next available subnet. This field is available only if the parent address block exists. For more information, see Configuring Next Available Network. This is not applicable to IPv6.
        • Scope: Specify the network scope. This field is available only if you select Next Available
      • Choose Scope: Configure the following settings:
        • Scope: Drill down to choose the scope.
        • IP space: Select an IP space from the drop-down list. Note that the IP space must have a subnet defined to create a NIOS-X Server.
        • Next AvailableThis option is selected automatically. This field is available only if the parent address block exists. For more information, see Configuring Next Available Network. This is not applicable to IPv6.
      • Tags: For information about tags, see Managing Tags.
  3. Click Save & Close to save the details or click Cancel to exit.

If Primary Name is selected, an A, AAAA record is generated and PTR record is generated if there is a reverse-mapping zone. If Alias is selected, only a CNAME record is generated and the Primary Name will be the canonical name for the alias. If the Primary Name and Alias are not selected, only A and AAAA records are generated.
