An SRV (service location) record directs queries to hosts that provide specific services. For example, if you have an FTP server, then you might create an SRV record that specifies the host which provides the service. You can specify more than one SRV record for a host. For more information about SRV records, see RFC 2052, DNS RR for specifying the location of services (DNSSRV).

To create an SRV Record, complete the following:

  1. From the Cloud Services Portal, click Manage -> DNS -> Zones.
  2. Click the DNS view.
  3. Click the zone.
  4. Click Create -> Record and select SRV Record from the drop-down list.
  5. On the Create SRV Record page, specify the following:
    • Display input as: Select RFC 2782 Format or Free Format. 
    • Service: Enter the service or select from the list. This field is enabled only if RFC 2782 is selected. 
    • Protocol: Enter the protocol or select from the list. This field is displayed only if RFC 2782 is selected. 
    • Name: Enter the name for the SRV Record. 
    • Zone: Select an associated zone from the column selector.
    • Priority: Enter or select the priority.
    • Weight: Enter or select the weight.
    • Port: Enter or select the port. 
    • Target: Enter a target for the SRV Record. 
    • Description: Enter a descriptive comment about the SRV Record.
    • TTL: Enter a numeric value and select Hours, Minutes, or Seconds from the drop-down.
    • Disable for DNS Protocol: Click this check box to temporarily disable for DNS Protocol. For more information, see Enabling and Disabling Zones.
    • Tags: Click Add to associate keys with values. Specify the following details:
      • KEY: Enter a meaningful name for the key, such as a location or a department. 

      • VALUE: Enter a value for the key such as San Jose (for location), or Accounts (for department).     

        To remove a tag, select the respective check box and click Remove to delete the associated tag. For more information about tags, see Managing Tags.
  6. Click Save & Close to save.
