Creating a DNAME Record
A DNAME record is used to create an alias for an existing DNS name. It provides redirection from part of a DNS name to part of the DNS name through an alias. It also provides mapping of sub-domains. For example, for the website infoblox.com, you can create a DNAME infobloxcorporate.com. If a sub-domain is created as sales.infoblox.com, the sub-domain will be automatically created as sales.infobloxcorporate.com. Here, the DNAME record is infobloxcorporate.
To create a DNAME Record, complete the following:
- From the Infoblox Portal, click Configure > Networking > DNS > Zones.
- Click the DNS view.
- Click the zone.
- Click Create > Record and select DNAME Record from the drop-down list.
On the Create DNAME Record page, specify the following and click Save & Close:
- Alias: Specify an alias for the record. If you are adding a DNAME record for the entire zone, leave this field empty. This field is for adding a DNAME record for a subdomain within the selected zone.

- Target: Enter the domain name to which you want to map all the domain names specified in the Alias field.
