Manually configuring multiple BloxOne hosts with the same set of services can be cumbersome and error prone. To simplify the planning, deployment and maintenance of your hosts, you can create and apply templates to groups of multiple hosts to enforce a common host configuration.

A template contains a set of service names, service types, service descriptions, service tags, and interface labels (interface bindings) you have defined for a host.  To create a template, you select an existing host and BloxOne takes a snapshot of the service configurations on that host.

When assigning a template to hosts, you can assign the template to up to 100 hosts at a time. In total, you can apply a single template to up to a maximum of 500 hosts.

After applying a template to one or more hosts, you have the option to set a specific lock type on individual hosts to handle the following situations:

  • Ensure that the hosts adhere to the template configurations.

  • Add, modify, or delete services on certain hosts to which you have applied a template.

  • Test a particular service configuration on the hosts.

For information on how to set lock type on a host, see Setting Lock Type on Hosts.

The Cloud Services Portal logs the following template actions to the audit log: create, update, apply, and delete. For information, see Viewing Audit Logs.

The ManageInfrastructureTemplates page provides a card view and a table view for displaying information. You can toggle between the card and table view by clicking the icon on the upper right corner of the navigation bar.

  • Card view

    The Card View icon
  • Table view

By default, the card view displays the list of all configured templates.

When you toggle to the table view, the Templates page can display some or all of the following fields. By clicking the hamburger menu next to the fields, you have the flexibility to select or deselect the fields (including associated tags) as well as their order to be displayed in the table view.

  • TEMPLATE: The name of the template.

  • DESCRIPTION: The description of the template.

  • CREATED: The timestamp when the template was created.

  • UPDATED: The timestamp when the template was last updated.

You can also do the following:

  • Perform a local search to view templates based on your filtering criteria; and you can page through the results. BloxOne supports the following field for local search on the Templates page: Name.

  • Click the Sort by drop-down menu to sort the list of templates by available fields, such as Created, Template Name, and Updated.

  • Click the down arrow on the right to expand the panel to view service information of the template and the hosts to which the template has been applied. The Cloud Services Portal display up to five hosts in this panel. To view the full list of hosts for a template, click > General Information > Host tab.

  • Click > General Information to view detailed information about the template and the hosts on which the template was applied.

  • Filter information by template name or the name of the host on which you have applied the template.
