A DNS server group is a collection of DNS name servers. You can include a group of primary name servers and secondary name servers, nested DNS server groups, primary DNS servers, and/or secondary DNS servers in a DNS server group. However, a DNS Server Group must contain at least one primary and one secondary name server either directly or through a nested DNS server group. When nesting DNS server groups, you may include only the collection of primary name servers or the collection of secondary name servers. This flexibility reduces the number of DNS server groups that you must manage, and it allows you to apply different configurations to different scenarios.

For example, you can create a DNS Server Group #1 that contains a group of two primary servers (ns-richmond and ns-wash-dc) and a group of two secondary (ns-va-beach and ns-baltimore) name servers. When you set up a zone and you want to use the two primary name servers but do not want to use the secondaries, you can add the DNS Server Group #1 to the Primary section of the zone. In this instance, only the group of the two primary name servers will be pulled from the DNS Server Group. The group of secondary name servers will be ignored.

To view the list of DNS server groups, perform the following:
