The dig command is frequently used by DNS administrators to debug DNS issues.

To run a simple DNS query from the Cloud Services Portal, complete the following:

  1. From the Cloud Services Portal, click DNS > DNS Servers.

  2. Click  and select Troubleshoot > DNS Query Results for a single DNS server. 

  3. Configure the following:

    • Type: Choose the record type.

    • Nameserver: Specify the IPv4, IPv6, or FQDN.

    • Host name: Specify the host name.

    • Select one of the following options:

      • vc (enables the TCP mode)

      • short (disables everything except the short forms of answers)

      • trace (traces all the delegations from the root)

      • dnssec (requests the server to send DNSSEC code)

      • norecurse (disables the recursive mode)

      • nssearch (searches all the authoritative name servers)

      • cdflag (requests the server not to perform a DNSSEC validation)

      • multiline (displays records in multiple lines).

  4. Click the Execute button.

The results are shown in the DNS Query Results pane. Click Download to download the query results.

Running an Advanced DNS Query

The Advanced tab is used for users who are familiar with the dig command.

To run an advanced DNS query from the Cloud Services Portal, complete the following:

  1. From the Cloud Services Portal, click DNS > DNS Servers.

  2. Click  and select Troubleshoot > DNS Query Results for a single DNS server. 

  3. Click Advanced.

  4. Specify the command in the Dig command field and click Execute.

The results are shown in the DNS Query Results pane. Click Download to download the query results.
