Creating Forward DNS Server Groups
A forward DNS server group is a collection of one or more external DNS servers. Grouping a set of external DNS servers together to a forward DNS server group reduces the configuration efforts. You can assign a single forward DNS server group as default forwarders for a forward zone instead of specifying multiple DNS servers individually.
Note the following while adding a forward DNS server group:
- You cannot add a forward DNS server group if a group with the same name already exists.
You cannot delete a forward DNS server group if it is assigned to a zone.
You can associate these with forward-mapping and reverse-mapping authoritative zones.
To create a forward DNS server group, complete the following:
- From the Infoblox Portal, click Configure > Networking > DNS Server Groups > Create > Forward DNS Server Group.
- On the Create Forward DNS Server Group page, specify the following:
- Name: Type a name that provides a meaningful reference for this set of servers.
- Description: Optionally, enter additional information about the forward DNS Server Group.
- DNS Servers: Select the DNS Servers from the list.
- FORWARDERS: Click Add and select one of the following options for every server that you are adding to the DNS server group.
- Forward to Address: Enter an external IP address to which you want to forward the queries.
- Forward to NIOS-X Server: Select a NIOS-X Server address from the drop-down list. The queries against the zone are forwarded to this NIOS-X Server.
- Forward to DNS Server Group: Select a DNS Server Group from the drop-down list. The servers in the DNS Server Group serves the zone and forward queries.
