Defining Ownership in Zone Federation

You can define the ownership of a zone, designating whether it is owned by BloxOne or a third-party provider. Ownership defines the “source of truth”. The source of truth will take precedence during a conflict between Universal DDI   and the Cloud provider.

• Any updates made in the cloud provider will revert during synchronization.

• By default, the ownership of the zones synced from the third-party provider will have the ownership defined as Third Party provider.

• Any DNS zone that is created on the Infoblox Portal and associated with Third Party Authoritative Server will default to BloxOne ownership.

• Third-Party Ownership: If a zone is owned by a third-party provider, the Infoblox Portal acts as a proxy for editing the zone. This allows customers to federate zones owned by external providers while leveraging the management facilities of Universal DDI  .

• Universal DDI   Ownership: For zones owned by Universal DDI  , any edits made to the zone through the Infoblox Portal are automatically replicated to the cloud provider. Use the Infoblox Portal as the source of truth for the Third Party zones and records. Accordingly, any edits made in the cloud provider are overwritten during the next sync. This behavior guarantees that Universal DDI   serves as the authoritative source for the zones it owns.

• Ownership Control: Users have the ability to define/update the ownership of each zone, controlling the editing process and maintaining a centralized view of the federated DNS infrastructure.
