Deploying vNIOS for KVM

You can deploy the vNIOS appliance from a remote web server or a local file system that is accessible from your management system. Instructions in this section assume that you have configured the server on your network, and you are able to connect to it from your management system.

To deploy a vNIOS appliance for KVM Hypervisor, complete the following steps:

  1. Download the qcow2 file from the Infoblox Technical Support site. For information, see the Requirements section.

  2. Install the vNIOS virtual appliance in KVM as described in Installing vNIOS Virtual Appliance in the KVM Environment.

  3. Configure and start the vNIOS virtual appliance, as described in Configuring the vNIOS Instance in the KVM Environment.

Note

Infoblox recommends that you back up your existing configuration before deploying vNIOS for KVM.

Requirements

Before installing a vNIOS for KVM instance, ensure that your setup meets the following requirements:

  • Deployment of the vNIOS for KVM hypervisor is supported on the following operating systems:

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.4 (from NIOS 9.0.5 onwards)

    • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 9.3 (from NIOS 9.0.4 onwards)

    • Ubuntu 22.04

    • Ubuntu 20.04

  • From the Infoblox Technical Support site, download the qcow2 file (vNIOS software package) according to the version of NIOS.
    To download the package, you must have a valid login account on the Infoblox Support site. If you do not already have an account, register your product at https://support.infoblox.com.
    To download the qcow2 file:

    1. Sign in to the Infoblox Support site.

    2. On the Download Center tab, under Download Categories, select NIOS/vNIOS.

    3. Under Select version, select the version of NIOS.

    4. Click vNIOS for KVM to expand it.

    5. In the Link to Download Images column, click the download icon to download the qcow2 file.
