Configuring Fixed Addresses

A fixed address represents a persistent link between an IP address and one of the following:

  • MAC address
  • Client identifier
  • Circuit ID or remote ID in the DHCP relay agent option (82)

You can configure fixed addresses for network devices, such as routers and email servers, that are not frequently moved from network to network. You can enter a specific IP address to assign to a device within a DHCP range or a subnet, or you can get the next available IP address that is free. By creating fixed addresses for network devices, clients can reliably reach them by their domain names. Some network devices, such as web or FTP servers, can benefit from having fixed addresses for this reason.

A fixed address reserves an address for a specific client. The application displays an error message if the same address appears twice in the same IP space.

To view the list of fixed addresses, complete the following:

  1. From the Infoblox Portal, click Configure > Networking > IPAM/DHCP Address Spaces.

  2. Click IP Space > Address Block > corresponding Subnet. It displays the list of fixed addresses associated with it.

  3. The application displays the following information:

  • ADDRESS/NAME: The IP address within the subnet.
  • DESCRIPTION: Additional information about the fixed address.
  • UTILIZATION: The percentage of used IP addresses in the respective subnet range.
  • USAGE: The type of object for which this address is being configured. Identify the addresses that have FIXED ADDRESS displayed in this field.

You can click IPAM View under the Search field to toggle to the DHCP View to view all the fixed addresses and leased addresses. The DHCP view displays the following information:

  • USAGE: Displays FIXED ADDRESS. This field is hidden by default.
  • LEASE END: The timestamp when the lease ends.
  • LEASE RENEWAL: The time remaining for the lease to be renewed.

Click the column selector to reorder the columns or to select the columns to be displayed. Note that you cannot hide ADDRESS.

To get more details about the fixed address, you can click the address name to view the Relate Object page. This page displays the following objects:
