Limitations of Zone Federation

The DNS Zone Federation feature has the following limitations:

  • This feature only supports one third-party provider to associate with one zone.

    • For existing Zones with multiple providers associated with them: when the user updates the zone (any update), it will show an error stating it cannot have more than one provider associated. So the user has to keep only one provider to proceed with the update.

  • The Ownership update can only take place if that is the only update to a zone. Ownership update is not allowed with any other update operation.

  • When an orphan/BloxOne zone is attached to a the third-party provider, if records already exist under the zone, it will not sync immediately to the cloud provider. You must wait till the next periodic synchronization.

  • Dissociation of third party provider not supported for a zone.

  • Zone ownership is not supported for Private zones. It will act as provider-owned. Creating a private zone is restricted on the Infoblox Portal.

  • Inheritance of TTL global configuration not supported for provider owned zone or records.
