Applying Templates to Servers

Manually configuring multiple NIOS-X servers with the same set of services can be cumbersome and error prone. To simplify the planning, deployment and maintenance of your servers, you can create and apply templates to groups of multiple servers to enforce a common server configuration.

A template contains a set of service names, service types, service descriptions, service tags, and interface labels (interface bindings) you have defined for a NIOS-X server.  To create a template, you select an existing server and the Infoblox Platform takes a snapshot of the service configurations on that server.

When assigning a template to NIOS-X servers, you can assign the template to up to 100 servers at a time. In total, you can apply a single template to up to a maximum of 500 servers.

To apply a template to NIOS-X servers:

  1. Log in to the Infoblox Portal.

  2. Go to Configure > Service Deployment > Protocol Service Templates.

  3. Select a template you want to use, and then click … > Apply Template.

  4. In the Apply Template wizard, do the following on the General Info page:

    • Name: Displays the name of the template. You cannot modify this field.

    • Description: Displays the description of the template. You cannot modify this field.

    • Tags: Click the down arrow icon > Add to specify the keys to be associated with the NIOS-X server:

      • KEY: Enter a meaningful name for the key, such as a location or a department.

      • VALUE: Select the appropriate checkbox, and enter the value for the associated key. For details, see Managing tags.

    • ServerS: This section displays all the available NIOS-X servers to which you can apply the template. You can do the following:
      In the AVAILABLE server table:

      • Click the double arrow to select all available servers.

      • Click the arrow next to a server to select the server.

      • Enter key words to search for a specific server for selection.
        In the SELECTED Server table:

      • Click the trash icon to deselect all servers.

      • Enter key words to search for a specific server for removal.

  5. Click Next to view the summary of the template before applying it to the selected servers, or click Cancel to cancel the operation. For details, see Viewing Apply Template Summary.
