Monitoring NIOS-X Server Metrics

Infoblox Platform provides a monitoring feature you can use to integrate with your monitoring tools to obtain NIOS-X server metrics directly from the NIOS-X servers themselves. When you set up a monitoring configuration, Infoblox Platform uses APIs on the associated NIOS-X servers, so your monitoring tools can query NIOS-X server metrics via TCP ports 443 and 8443, based on the configured authentication method. For example, NIOS-X server metrics such as onprem_host_last_disconnected_timestamp in Epoch time (in seconds) is helpful to know in case the NIOS-X server is disconnected from the cloud network. A value of '0' indicates the NIOS-X server is connected. Note that NIOS-X server metrics will be served on port 8443 only when you have enabled the remote access VPN application. In this case, port 443 will not be available.

To integrate the monitoring feature with your tools, you first set up a monitoring configuration, and then apply it to selected NIOS-X servers. You can choose a desired authentication method when setting up the configuration. You can create multiple configurations and apply them to selected NIOS-X servers. When you enable the Apply to New Servers option, the configuration becomes the default, and all newly created NIOS-X servers will automatically inherit the monitoring configuration.

Only one default monitoring configuration can be used at any given time. If you set up another monitoring configuration and select the Apply to New Servers option, the new configuration becomes the default for all newly created NIOS-X servers, and the previous default configuration will be disabled.

All the monitoring events are recorded in the audit log. For information, see Viewing Audit Logs.

With this release, you can obtain the following NIOS-X server metrics when you enable a monitoring configuration on the NIOS-X server:

  • NIOS-X server CPU, memory, and storage

  • Port metrics

  • Protocol metrics

The Infoblox Platform monitoring feature also supports the following for metrics endpoints:

  • Metrics endpoints are exposed to your monitoring tools

  • TLS (HTTPS) support for metrics endpoints

  • Authentication configuration for NIOS-X server metrics (basic, client certificate, or no authentication)

  • Default configuration for all newly created NIOS-X servers (Apply to New Servers option)

  • Support for scraping metrics in JSON format

  • Support for multiple configurations

  • Bulk deletion for multiple configurations

  • Audit logging

The Configure > Administration > Server Metrics Connector page provides a card view and a table view for displaying information. You can toggle between the card and table view by clicking the icon on the upper right corner of the navigation bar.

  • Card view

    The Card View icon
  • Table view

    The Table View icon

By default, the card view displays the following information for each configuration you have created:

  • The name of the configuration.

  • The authentication type.

  • The description (if any) of the configuration.

  • Apply to New Server: This appears for the configuration you have enabled as the default for all newly created NIOS-X servers. Note that only one configuration can be enabled as the default at any given time. If you enable another configuration as the default, the previous default configuration will be disabled.

When you toggle to the table view, the Monitoring page can display some or all of the following fields. By clicking the hamburger menu next to the fields, you have the flexibility to select or deselect the fields (including associated tags) as well as their order to be displayed in the table view.

  • CONFIGURATION NAME: The name of the configuration.

  • AUTHENTICATION TYPE: The authentication type.

  • DESCRIPTION: The description of the configuration.

In the right panel, click to expand Enabled Servers to view the list of NIOS-X servers on which you have enabled monitoring.

You can also do the following:

  • Perform a local search to view monitoring configurations based on your filtering criteria; and you can page through the results. Infoblox Platform supports the following field for local search on the Monitoring page: Name.

  • Click the … icon next to a configuration and choose one of the following:
