Configuring Service Thresholds and Alerts

You can configure the threshold for platform and application metrics to trigger alerts that the Infoblox Platform sends to specific users and user groups. You can also choose to receive service notifications when specific services are down. As an administrator, after you configure the thresholds for respective metrics and select applicable service notifications, you can then choose the delivery methods for specific user groups. Infoblox Platform offers two delivery methods: email and in-app delivery. For information on notification delivery, see Configuring Notification Delivery.

To configure thresholds for metrics and alert notifications for service status, complete the following:

  1. From Infoblox Portal, click the notification icon (next to the global search icon) on the top right corner of the Portal.

  2. On the Notifications panel, click the ellipse icon > View All/Settings.

  3. Click Admin Settings located on the top right-hand side of the page.

  4. On the Admin Settings page, click Default Application Thresholds, and complete the following:

    • Server Notifications: This section displays the default threshold settings for NIOS-X server notifications. You can change the default by entering a desired value in the applicable fields, as follows:

      • Sever CPU Usage: This metric measures the overall CPU usage of the NIOS-X server. The default threshold is over 90%, which means when the NIOS-X server's CPU usage exceeds this number, the system will send a notification.

      • Sever Memory Usage: This metric measures the total memory of the NIOS-X server before the system sends a notification. The default is more than 90% used, which means the system will send a notification when the NIOS-X server's total memory usage exceeds 90%.

      • Sever State: This metric measures the duration for which the NIOS-X server stays in Review Details state. If the NIOS-X server is in Review Details state for more than 300 seconds, the system sends a notification.

      • Sever Disk Usage: This metric measures the total disk usage of the root file system before sending a notification. The default is more than 90% used, which means the system will deliver a notification when the NIOS-X server's total disk usage for the root file system exceeds 90%.

      • Sever Inode Usage: This metric measures the total disk usage of all files residing on the NIOS-X server. The default is more than 90% used, which means the system will send a notification when the NIOS-X server's total inode usage exceeds 90%.

    • Service Notifications: Select the Send an alert if <service> goes down check box to receive notifications when the respective service is down. Note that notification is disabled for all services.
Infoblox Platform supports service notifications for the following. You will not receive notifications for services that are not listed below (such as the DFP service) because notifications are not currently enabled for those services.

      • DHCP Service Status: Select this option if you want to receive alerts when the DHCP service is down.

      • Anycast Service Status: Select this option if you want to receive alerts when the anycast service is down.

      • DNS Service Status: Select this option if you want to receive alerts when the DNS service is down.

      • Access Authentication Service Status: Select this option if you want to receive alerts when the authentication service is down.

      • Data Connector Service Status: Select this option if you want to receive alerts when the Data Connector service is down.

      • NTP Service Status: Select this option if you want to receive alerts when the NTP service is down.

  5. Click Save or Save & Close.

Note

You can click Reset to Default on top of each section to revert to the default settings.
