Infoblox Platform Notifications

Infoblox Platform Notifications

Infoblox Platform is designed to keep you informed about critical events through notifications. Located at the top right corner of Infoblox Portal, the notification icon (next to the global search icon) indicates the total number of notifications received within the past three days. If the count exceeds 99 notifications, it will be shown as 99+. By clicking on the notification icon, you can access the most recent notifications. You also have the option to view personal notifications and configure notification settings by clicking on the ellipsis icon.

Infoblox supports the following user groups for notification delivery:

  • Global administrators

  • Access control administrators

  • Universal DDI administrators

  • Universal DDI users

  • Infoblox Service Edge administrators

  • Infoblox Service Edge users

  • Infoblox Threat Defense administrators

  • Infoblox Threat Defense users

  • Infoblox NIOS users

  • Company External Trusted Partner users

  • Global users

  • SOC Insights administrators

  • SOC Insights users

  • Service Integrations: Other services you have integrated. For information on how to configure service integrations, see Configuring Service Integrations.

For each user group, notifications are supported for the following events:

  • New Release Notifications: Events related to new Infoblox Platform release information, such as new features and enhancements, based on your Infoblox subscriptions. New Release information and service change/interruptions are generated by Infoblox support and operations. There is no tie to the Infoblox Portal. Customers have the ability to subscribe to service notifications down to specific product families.

  • Account Notifications: Events related directly to user accounts, such as password reset, new user notification, user deletion, and others. Account and Platform level notification stands alone. Example: If you create an administrator account, by default all the other administrator accounts are notified. Note that these notifications can be adjusted. hese settings are adjustable). These are generated with any license on the Infoblox Portal.

  • License Notifications: License expiration notifications are related to Account notifications in Infoblox Notifications, but the notifications are related with The SOC Insight Reporting system in Configuring Notification Delivery, as well.

  • DDI Metrics: Events about whether the DHCP utilization is too high or too low.

  • Host Notifications/Server Notifications: Events related to the host/server metrics, such as if a host/server is using too much memory or is running out of hard drive space. You can configure the thresholds that trigger these alerts. Host/server resource notifications (e.g. CPU usage for servers) are related with Service notifications in Infoblox Notifications, but the notifications are are related with The SOC Insight Reporting system in Configuring Notification Delivery, too. Universal DDI notifications do not require or use SOC Insights. Do note that SOC Insight Reporting system group is including the other groups (Host/Server Notifications and Service Notifications, or it may include all other groups New Release, Account, DDI Metrics, Host, and Service notifications). The notifications mentioned are available in the Infoblox Platform notification settings or through the specific Application settings for Universal DDI. There is no requirement for SOC insights to have any of these base notifications. For information, see Configuring Service Thresholds and Alerts.

  • Service Notifications: Service-down alerts for selected services that are running on the host. All service-down notifications are deselected by default. You must choose the services on which you want to receive notifications and configure the applicable delivery method to receive service notifications. For information on service notifications, see Configuring Service Thresholds and Alerts.
Note: Infoblox Platform sends service notifications for available services only. For example, notifications are not currently supported for the DFP service; therefore, you cannot choose to receive service-down notifications for the DFP service.

  • The SOC Insights Reporting system: Infoblox Portal event notifications delivered via Data Connector to SIEMs, such as license expiration, CPU utilization, or new feature announcements. SOC Insight notifications are based on

    • Enhanced Security events (if the customer has purchased the separate SOC Insights license)

    • Configuration Events (all customers, with or without the optional license).

Infoblox administrators can configure global notification settings for all users and user groups. For information on how to configure global or admin delivery settings, see Configuring Notification Delivery.

For information about how to configure notification settings, see Configuring Notification Settings.

Note the following about your notifications:

  • Notifications and alerts are archived after they have been in the DISMISSED state for at least 12 hours. Alerts become DISMISSED when you click Clear List in the New Notifications panel (after clicking the bell icon). The DISMISSED alerts will become visible again when the user clicks View all notifications until such time they are archived. When notifications and alerts are archived, they will no longer be visible or accessible.

  • Each notification has a prefix icon that indicates the severity of the event. You can hover you mouse over the icon to view the severity level.

  • You can opt-out of specific notifications by updating their User Preferences and selecting the notifications you want to receive. Individual settings do not affect the global or admin settings for other users.

The following are notification types the Infoblox Platform generates:

  • Account notifications: These are notifications generated from admin account activities, such as identity services, or password reset. Please realize that license expiration notifications are received only through the Infoblox Portal and not through the email service.

  • Service notifications: These are notifications generated from applications that contain threshold configurations, such as memory usage or CPU usage for hosts.

Depending on your permissions, you may perform notification related settings when you navigate to the following tabs:

Delivery Settings tab: Configure the delivery mechanisms for personal notifications. Administrators can configure notifications to be delivered through emails and/or in-app banners. You can override the default delivery methods and set up thresholds for certain service notifications. Infoblox implements deduplication for notifications to prevent notification floods, which identifies identical notifications and sets a grace period to stop duplicate notifications before sending them again.

Service Integrations tab: Integrate other services to receive notifications. You can configure other services, such as PagerDuty or custom webhook, for your notifications. For more information about service integrations, see Configuring Service Integrations.

You can also do the following in this tab:

  • Filter notifications by Severity (Low, Medium, or High).

  • Click Show and select a time frame from the drop-down menu to display specific notifications during the time duration. The Infoblox Portal displays all notification by default.

  • Select the notifications you want to delete or click Select All to select all notifications, and then click Delete to remove the notifications.

  • Click the refresh icon to refresh the Notifications page.

  • Enter a value in the Search text box to search for notifications that contain the key word in the text box.
