Modifying Global OSPF Settings for an OSPF Router

  1. In the Global OSPF Settings tab, do the following:

    1. Version: OSPFV2 is set automatically.

    2. PID: Enter a random number as the OSPF process ID. The PID is also called the instance ID and is local to OSPF. Service Edge supports only one instance of OSPF.

    3. Auto-cost reference bandwidth: OSPF calculates the cost of a route as the ratio of the reference bandwidth to the bandwidth of the egress interface. An increase in the reference bandwidth results in an increased cost. If the resulting cost is less than 1, the software rounds the cost up to 1.

    4. Router ID: Enter a valid IP address.

    5. Log Adjacency Changes: Enable this to configure the router to send a syslog message when the state of an OSPF neighbor changes. Disable this to turn off this function and use the no form of this command. By default, Disabled is selected.

    6. Passive All: Disable this to suppress OSPF hello packets on a specified interface. Enable this for OSPF to continue to announce or advertise the interface's connected network. By default, Disabled is selected.

    7. In the DEFAULT INFORMATION ORIGINATE section, specify the following:

      1. Advertise default route: Enable this to advertise the default route. By default, Disabled is selected. To change this, toggle the switch to Enabled.

      2. Always Advertise Unconditionally: By default, Disabled is selected. To change this, toggle the switch to Enabled.

      3. Metric: Enter an integer for the metric. The OSPF metric is the sum of the interface costs for all outgoing interfaces in the route. By default, an OSPF interface cost on a router is derived from the interface bandwidth; the faster the bandwidth, the lower the cost. To calculate the cost, divide the reference bandwidth (the default is 100 Mbps) by the interface bandwidth. For example, if you have an Ethernet interface (10 Mbps), the OSPF path cost is 100 Mbps divided by 10 Mbps, so the metric is 10.

      4. Metric Type: Select 1 or 2. Type 1 route has a metric that is the sum of the internal OSPF cost and the external redistributed cost. Type 2 route has a metric equal to the redistributed cost.

      5. Route Map: Select an existing route map, or create a new one.

  2. Click Next.
