Creating Discovery - Discovery Settings
In the Discovery Settings step, do the following:
In the Network to be Scanned section, click Add and do the following:
NETWORK: Enter the name of the network you want Network Insight to scan for assets.
EXCLUDE WITHIN: Specify the network to be excluded from discovery.
DESTINATION R/W IP SPACE: The destination R/W IP space is automatically populated. To select a different value, toggle Override and select the value.
PING SWEEP: A ping sweep is a network scanning technique used to determine which IP addresses in a given range are active (i.e., responding to network requests). It works by sending ICMP Echo Request packets (commonly known as "ping" requests) to multiple IP addresses and analyzing the responses. To enable ping sweep, toggle the setting to ON.
In the Seed Routers section, click Add and do the following:
NETWORK: Enter the IP address of the seed router so Network Insight can quickly discover all devices (such as endpoint hosts, printers and other devices). All such default gateways are automatically leveraged by discovery, and no further configuration is necessary unless you wish to exclude a device from usage.
Ensure that all required information is provided, and click Next to proceed to the next step. If any required information is left empty, an error icon will appear next to the page. To complete missing information, click Back. To exit without saving the configuration, click Cancel. If you have completed all edits and configuration, click Finish.
For V1, V2, and V3 license entitlements, the creation of Network Insight service will implicitly create a default job configuration in order to perform the discovery using ping sweep. When you upgrade from lower entitlements to the V4 entitlement and you have Basic Ping Sweep enabled, the Network Insight job configuration will show the default job configuration in the list. You can either keep the default job configuration or remove it.
