Importing Data

Infoblox Platform supports importing certain data from a supported JSON or CSV file. For more information on the supported object types and the import/export process, see Importing and Exporting Data. See Supported Formats for the supported file format. For information on the mandatory and optional fields, see Import Parameters.

Neither Universal DDI nor Infoblox Threat Defense supports importing CSV files that were exported from NIOS.

To view the import events, go to Configure > Administration > Data Import/Export. The following information is shown for each import:

  • Name: The name of the import event.
  • Created by: The user account use for importing data.
  • Start time: Start time of the import.
  • End time: End time of the import.
  • Object Type: The number and object types in the imported data.
  • Status: The status of the import process, whether it is in progress (active), complete, or failed.
  • Error: If the import operation failed, the error log is shown with the reason for the failure is updated in the document

You can do the following in this tab:

  • Sort By: Click to sort by Created by, Description, Name, Start time or Status.
  • Click the sort button, the sort icon , to sort in ascending or descending order.
  • Enter the keyword in the Search field to search for a particular entry.
  • Click  the filter button, Click the filter icon, to filter by Name, Description, Created By, Start time or Status.

You can import DNS views and zones in the same import action. However, the import of resource records should be done as a separate import action. Importing both DNS views and zones with resource records in the same import action may result in errors. To ensure successful imports, export DNS views and zones in one export action, and resource records in another export action. You can then import both files separately to avoid errors.

To import data and create an import report:

  1. Go to Configure > Administration > Data Import/Export > Import tab.

  2. Click Import.

  3. Complete the following steps:

Note

This feature is limited to a maximum of 35K objects that can be imported at a time.  On average, 35K objects translates to an import file of approximately 50 MB in size.
