Managing Local Access for Servers

You can enable local access on your NIOS-X physical, virtual, or bare-metal servers through the Device UI without disconnecting them from the Infoblox Platform in situations where you need to to perform applicable administrative operations, such as device restart, factory reset, secrets upload, and support bundle download.

You can reset a server to factory default only on physical servers. For bare-metal servers, only the support bundle download is supported.

Enabling Local HTTPS Access

To enable local HTTPS access to a server, complete the following:

  1. Log in to the Infoblox Portal.
  2. Click Configure > Servers.
  3. On the Servers page, select the sever you want to configure.
  4. Click the Server Actions drop-down menu, and then select Local Access to enable local access to the server.
  5. In the Enable Local Access dialog, complete the following:
    • Username: Enter "admin" as the login user name for the server.
    • Password: Enter the last eight characters of the serial number for the server. This includes all special characters in the last eight digits of the serial number. For example, if your serial number is 0000-0003-0345-7086-7077-6969-08, you should enter -6969-08. If the serial number contains whitespace, do not include the whitespace as part of the eight characters. For example, if your serial number is VMware-56 4d c6 59 23 66 a6 9f-3b f9 bf 0c 4f 87 52 8c, you should enter 4f87528c.
      • For physical servers (NIOS-X (BloxOne) Physical Server), you can get the serial number through the Infoblox Portal. The serial number is also printed on the physical server itself and is available through the server console (if you connect the server to a computer monitor).
      • For virtual servers (NIOS-X (BloxOne) Virtual Server), you can get the serial number through the Infoblox Portal. You can also get the serial number when you connect to the virtual console.
      • For bare-metal server deployment (NIOS-X (BloxOne) Container), the serial number is the OPHID of the server. Infoblox recommends that you obtain this OPHID when you first deploy the server and keep it handy for future reference. You can also get the OPHID through the Infoblox Portal.
  6. Click Enable. Local HTTPS access to the server is granted for two hours. To login, use the same credentials you used to enable the access: username "admin" and password being the last eight characters of the serial number.

Disabling Local HTTPS Access

  2. Click Configure > Servers.

  4. Click Disable. Local access to the server is disabled.

Note

  • Active local HTTPS access will be lost when a NIOS-X serveris rebooted.
  • Local SSH access to a NIOS-X server can be enabled from the local HTTPS UI on the server. This SSH access will be remain active until it is disabled in the local HTTPS UI of the server or until the server is restarted.
