Using Maintenance Mode for Servers

In situations where you need to initiate maintenance on a NIOS-X server such as upgrading the OS, rewiring the server, or changing the location of the server, you can put the server in maintenance mode. When a server is in maintenance mode, you will not receive any notifications of server activities. However, you can continue to deploy services and perform configurations on the server. All server and service configurations are not affected during the maintenance mode. To resume notifications, you must manually stop maintenance mode on the server.

Note the following when you start maintenance mode on a server:

  • It might take up to 15 minutes for the server to get into maintenance mode.
  • The Maintenance label and a maintenance icon will appear next to the server name to indicate the server is in maintenance mode.
  • To reduce unnecessary traffic, you will not receive any notifications about the server activities when the server is in maintenance mode.
  • You can still provision services and perform interface configurations during maintenance mode. All server and service activities continue to function normally during maintenance mode.

Note the following when you end maintenance mode on the server:

  • Notifications of server activities will resume.

All events related to the starting and ending of maintenance mode are logged in the server service log. For information, see Viewing Service Logs.
